Rescue Pets of Florida kicked off a lighthearted program on Valentine’s Day called “Neuter Your Ex.” For a $20 donation, you can name a community cat after an ex while the cat is spayed or neutered.
The campaign, with the slogan “don’t get mad, get even,” shares cat pictures on social media with their new names. Rescue Pets of Florida told WFLA, “Still feeling a little salty this Valentine’s Day? For just $20, you can ‘Neuter Your Ex’ (or spay!) and turn that heartbreak into something that actually helps animals.”
The nonprofit, started in 2015 as Rescue Cats of Florida, now also helps dogs and other animals. In over a decade, they’ve found homes for more than 25,000 animals.
The group, run by volunteers, collaborates with big pet stores and local shelters. They focus on rescuing, healing, and finding homes for pets around Tampa.
They’ve grown to include five centers and established a farm focused on animal care and community education.
Support from the community is crucial for the nonprofit. Donations cover vet services, food, and supplies. This kind of support drives initiatives like “Neuter Your Ex,” directly benefiting local animals.
They also organize pop-up clinics for spaying and neutering. By partnering with other groups, they help reduce unwanted litters.
Director Jeanine Cohen said, “Reaching our 10-year anniversary is incredible, but what excites me even more is how far we’ve expanded our impact,” she shared with Osprey Observer. These clinics actively prevent new litters and ease the load on area shelters.
The group’s primary aim is to find loving homes for every animal. By teaming up with shelters, volunteers, and community members, they make this happen. Programs like “Neuter Your Ex” align with their mission, raising support and awareness for animal welfare.
Rescue Pets of Florida remains committed to extending their reach. Their teamwork, donations, and creative fundraising efforts push the cause forward. Every donation improves the lives of pets around the Bay area.
