As Florida braces for frost and possible snow flurries as winter storms hit other parts of the U.S., a freeze warning will be in effect for Miami-Dade and Broward counties, the National Weather Service said.

The freeze warning will be in effect at 10 p.m. and will end on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Due to the cold temperatures, the NWS is urging people that if they need to go outside, they should dress in layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves.

Pets are recommended to stay inside, and people should use caution when using portable heaters.

The forecast remains on track, and that means we are still expecting the coldest air in up to 16 years for parts of South Florida, maybe longer, depending on the outcome Sunday morning.

Saturday is the calm before the storm, so to speak, as mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers set up as our front approaches.

This powerful front is forecast to arrive this afternoon, and you’ll know right away.

Temps will start dipping, and winds will really pick up.

In fact, we could see winds gusting 30-40 mph later today and tonight. Combine that wind with forecast lows tonight and Sunday morning in the mid-30s, and you end up with wind chills in the 20s!
