GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The Gator men’s and women’s swimming teams went down to Ocala to face off against rival Florida State.
And the gators had a day, continuing to play like one of the best in the nation. Especially, freshman Ahmed Jaouadi is starting in Men’s 1650 freestyle with an NCAA qualifying time of 14:39.75.
You’ll hear his name again. Meanwhile, in the women’s circuit, sophomore Anita Bottazzo showed up Friday in the Women’s 100 breaststroke with a qualifying time of 58.32.
Josh Liendo always has a way of giving a Canadian-style greeting as he pulls off a strong qualifying time in the Men’s 200 butterfly with a time of 1:40.12.
Back to the women’s circuit with Bottazzo, this time in the Women’s 200 breaststroke, and predictably, she qualifies again with a time of 2:10.33.
I told you Ahmed Jaouadi would show up again, this time the freshman highlights himself in the Men’s 500 freestyle with 4:16 flat, and continues to qualify. Bottazzo gets two with breaststroke, and Liendo gets two with butterfly in the Men’s 200 and an impressive time of 45.28 seconds.
And the most dramatic race of the day.
Men’s 400 individual medley. Gio Linscheer for the Gators was neck and neck with Mathias Christensen for the Seminoles. But it’s Linscheer who wins by one second and qualifies with a time of 3:45.85.
The women got the win, 186 to 110, and the men recorded a 202 to 93 victory.
