TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A resident’s yard burn led to a large brush fire along the lake bed of Lake Jackson Sunday morning, according to a Bradfordville Fire & Rescue social post.
Both the Bradfordville Volunteer Fire Department (BVFRD) and the City of Tallahassee Fire Department responded to the reported brush fire at about 11:19 a.m. Sunday. They were reportedly dispatched to Miller Landing Road.
According to BVFRD, the fire began after a resident burned yard debris that escaped containment and spread to neighboring yards.

When a BVFRD brush truck and TFD crews arrived, they began stopping the fire but the size of the fire was difficult to contain and access.
As a result, more brush trucks from BVFRD and TFD were called in to help bring the fire under control, per the social post.
Bradfordville Fire & Rescue said that Leon County is still in a drought, even with the recent rain.
“And, while Leon County has not issued a burn ban, we discourage open burning due to the low relative humidity, winds, and ongoing drought,” BVFRD said in a social post.
The department said that residents should follow Florida Forestry regulations if they do burn.
