North Central Florida officials ask residents to cut power use during cold weather peak

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – As cold weather takes over most of North Central Florida, Ocala Mayor Ben Marciano and Newberry City Manager Jordan Marlowe asked residents to help conserve energy.

In statements posted to social media, Marciano and Marlow noted unusually high electricity demand is putting strain on the power system.

They both urged residents to reduce usage between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. tonight and Monday morning from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

The post also included more ways residents can help conserve energy, including:

Setting the thermostats a few degrees lowerAvoiding EV charging during peak hoursLimiting hot water useDelaying use of large appliances
