Several south Pinellas County area teams claimed district soccer titles, advancing to the regional playoffs.
On the boys side, Osceola’s boys took home the Class 5A, District 11 title while Calvary Christian captured the Class 3A, District 8 title. Other champions included Shorecrest (Class 2A-11) and Admiral Farragut (1A-9). Seminole’s girls earned their fourth consecutive district championship. St. Petersburg’s girls continued their stellar season with the 5A-10 title. Calvary Christian (3A-8) and Indian Rocks Christian (1A-9) also were champions.
Boys
Osceola captures 5A-10 title
Osceola’s boys soccer team defeated St. Petersburg 1-0 to claim the Class 5A, District 10 championship, the Warriors’ second win over the Green Devils this season.
Uriel Vite-Rangel scored the game’s only goal in the first half off an assist from Dorian Orlicz.
The Warriors have suffered just two losses this season, each by a single goal to nationally ranked Palm Harbor University.
Calvary Christian cruises in 3A-8
Calvary Christian’s boys soccer team captured the Class 3A, District 8 championship with a 6-1 victory over Tampa Catholic in the final.
Dylan Cometa and Ryan Mullins each scored twice to lead the Warriors, while Peter Janzen tallied four assists. Mateo Brannan Morales and Colin Gilligan also found the net for Calvary Christian.
The Warriors have won four of their last five matches heading into the regional playoffs.
Shorecrest wins 2A-11 title
Shorecrest defeated Berkeley Prep 3-1 to capture the Class 2A, District 11 championship.
Andrei Imensek, William Francis and Charlie Cowan each scored a goal for the Chargers, who have suffered just one loss this season — a defeat to Bradenton Saint Stephen’s earlier this month.
Admiral Farragut clams 1A-9 title
Admiral Farragut defeated Keswick Christian 1-0 to capture the Class 1A, District 9 championship, completing a remarkable turnaround.
Jacob Singleton scored the game’s only goal in the first half, and goalkeeper Henri Oliveira made seven saves to record the shutout for the Blue Jackets.
After struggling to a 2-9-3 start, Admiral Farragut has won three consecutive matches.
Girls
St. Petersburg wins 5A-10 title
St. Petersburg High’s girls soccer team captured the Class 5A, District 10 championship, defeating Osceola 5-0 behind two goals each from Kiana Sayavong and Gabby Flores. Caitlin Williams added another score, and Ellie Swain recorded the shutout.
The Green Devils outscored Pinellas Park and Osceola by a combined 13-0 in the district tournament. St. Petersburg, which won the Pinellas County Athletic Conference title earlier this month, has reeled off eight consecutive victories.
Seminole claims fourth straight district title
Seminole routed Hardee 8-0 to win its fourth consecutive Class 4A, District 10 championship.
Kylie Ekra led the Warhawks with three goals and three assists, while Natalie Doyel added two goals and an assist. Schuyler Maris, Isabella Applewhite and Romy Soglowek each scored once for Seminole.
The Warhawks carry significant momentum into the postseason, having outscored opponents 21-1 over their last three matches.
Calvary Christian survives OT thriller in 3A-8
Calvary Christian’s girls soccer team won the Class 3A, District 8 championship with a 1-0 overtime victory over Tampa Catholic in the final.
Mia Schmidgall scored the game-winner off an assist from Hailey Brugner, while Penelope Ruth recorded the shutout in goal for the Warriors.
It was the second shutout Calvary Christian has posted against the Crusaders this season.
Indian Rocks Christian wins 1A-9 title
Indian Rocks Christian’s girls soccer team captured the Class 1A, District 9 championship with a 4-1 victory over top-seeded Northside Christian in the final.
Victori Benjamin led the second-seeded Eagles with three goals, while Elise Miles added one. Amelia Clarkson tallied three assists in the title match.
The Eagles are 3-1-2 in their last six matches heading into the regional playoffs.
