Championship
Mariner 5, Fort Myers 1: Alessandro Gonzalez’s hat track led the way as the Tritons (23-2-2) captured the District 5A-11 championship. Justin Medero and Myles Rios also scored for Mariner, which avenged last year’s loss to the Green Wave in the 5A-11 final. Going into the district tournament, the Tritons were ranked sixth in the state in Class 5A and second in Region 5A-3 behind Tampa Jesuit.

Bishop Verot 1, Aubrey Rogers 0: The Vikings (9-1-6) got a goal from Jack Fish in the second half to win their seventh consecutive district title. The most recent FHSAA rankings had Bishop Verot ninth in Class 3A and second to Somerset Academy-Canyons in Region 3A-3.

GIRLS SOCCER
State rankings: Both District 5A-11 champion North Fort Myers and runner-up Mariner are in solid position to earn state playoff berths in girls soccer, according to the most recent FHSAA rankings. Mariner was ranked fifth in Class 5A and North ninth prior to the Red Knights’ district title win on Tuesday. The two schools held the highest rankings in Region 5A-3. Meanwhile, the Bishop Verot girls were third in Region 3A-3 and eighth in the state in Class 3A.
