MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Renowned actor and comedian Orlando Jones will serve as keynote speaker for Alabama State University’s 2026 Founders’ Day Ceremony on Feb. 6.

The event is held to honor the university’s nine founding members, known as the Marion Nine, who established the school on July 18, 1867, in Marion, Alabama.
Jones has worked in television, film, and digital media for more than 30 years. He was a founding cast member of ‘MAD TV’ and has done voice work in animation including ‘King of the Hill.’ He’s also appeared in shows including ‘Abbott Elementary’ and ‘Swagger.’
ASU said in a release that Jones’s career “reflects the spirit of determination and change celebrated by Alabama State University’s founders.”
Founders’ Day activities begin at 9 a.m. with a bell-ringing ceremony in front of the Levi Watkins Learning Center, followed by the main program in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome at 10 a.m.
