Former Florida paramedic sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping unconscious patient

A judge sentenced a former Flagler County paramedic to 10 years in prison after he was found guilty of sexual battery on an unconscious patient.James Melady, 38, was arrested after he was accused of molesting a woman who was unconscious in the back of an ambulance.Detectives discovered the video evidence while investigating unrelated cases involving Melady. The Daytona Beach Police Department said it has video of Melady touching the victim in October 2021.The video showed Melady setting up a recording device, adjusting the camera and molesting the woman.Investigators said detectives met with the victim, who was completely unaware of being attacked by Melady. He was found guilty in December of sexual battery on an unconscious patient. However, he was found not guilty of digital voyeurism.
