A new study from MetLife Pet Insurance found which breeds of dogs and cats were the most popular in each state, as well as which states were more curious about these breeds.
To explore these interests, MetLife writes that it analyzed Google search patterns across all 50 states and 50 of the most populous U.S. cities to identify which dog and cat breeds stood out in 2026.

Florida’s favorite dog breed is the goldendoodle, a designer breed created by crossbreeding a golden retriever and a poodle.
Florida also had one of the most active cities for searching for dog breeds, with Tampa having the fourth-highest search volume for dog breeds per capita in the country

For cat lovers, Florida’s favorite breed is the Savannah, a hybrid developed in the late 20th century by crossing a serval with a domestic cat.
More Floridians are researching cats, as Florida has two of the most active cities: Miami ranks third-highest in cat-breed search volume per capita nationwide, and Tampa ranks seventh.

The most searched cat breeds in the U.S. are Maine coon, sphynx, and Chartreux.
