Jacksonville police say that Jacqueline Jones-Garrison, 62, was found strangled to death on Friday, Jan. 30. Avery Garrison was charged the next morning.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is being charged with second-degree murder after his mother was found dead over the weekend, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday.
JSO said that at around 8:05 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, officers responded to a reported battery at a home on Bleinheim Place in the Hidden Hills area. According to the arrest report, officers encountered the suspect, 31-year-old Avery Garrison, who said his mother needed medical assistance.
Jacqueline Jones-Garrison, 62, was found in a bedroom inside the home and was pronounced deceased shortly after. JSO said the room showed signs of a disturbance. Jones-Garrison was determined to have been strangled.Â
Garrison was quickly identified as the suspect and arrested the next morning. He remained in the Duval County jail without bond on Monday.
“Our hearts go out to Jones-Garrison’s family and friends at this time,” the agency said in a social media post.
