JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Dolphins earned their second ASUN Freshman of the Week honors Monday, with freshman Aniah Smith winning the first conference honor of her college career.
Smith had a dynamic week for the Dolphins, leading Jacksonville to wins over Lipscomb and Austin Peay. She led the team in scoring, tied with fellow freshman Tatum Brown, rebounding, assists and steals.
Smith scored 15 points, grabbed a career-high eight rebounds, stole the ball a career-high six times and dished out four assists in the Dolphins to a 72-54 win over Lipscomb. Against Austin Peay, she scored a new career high with 16 points, adding five assists and three more steals.
The Avon, Indiana, product has had a breakthrough month since returning from an early season injury. She’s scored over 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in three-straight games.
Smith joins Brown as ASUN Freshman of the Week winners this season. Brown won after a 20-point debut performance against Charleston Southern in the season opener.
The Dolphins return to Jacksonville this week for the first time since Jan. 17 this Thursday against the West Georgia Wolves. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
The game is Jacksonville’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration. Before the game starting at 5:30 PM, all of the Dolphins varsity women’s teams will be at Swisher Gymnasium to meet with the community for pictures and autographs, celebrating women’s sports on the First Coast.
