St. Petersburg police detectives said a woman’s report of sexual assault on a date led them to Illinois to make an arrest. Now, police believe there may be more victims in the Tampa Bay area.
Police said Joshua Abercrombie, 21, was taken into custody on Jan. 29 in Will County, Illinois, on an arrest warrant stemming from the case reported in St. Pete.
Detectives said Abercrombie met the woman through a social media app, and they decided to meet up late in November.
“During their date, he became aggressive and sexually assaulted and choked her repeatedly,” detectives said.
Abercrombie is now charged with sexual battery.
“Detectives believe there could be additional victims who have not yet come forward and are urging them to contact police,” St. Pete police said, noting that information can be provided confidentially.
