TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Attorney’s for Charlie Adelson will appeal to judges in Tallahassee asking them to overturn his conviction on Tuesday.
Adelson is serving life in prison for his part in the murder for hire of his former brother-in-law, Florida State Law professor Dan Markel. He was convicted in November 2023.
Adelson’s attorneys claim he was denied “a fair and impartial trial,” citing pre-trial publicity.
Prosecutors say Adelson would have been convicted anywhere in Florida.
Tuesday’s hearing is at 10 a.m. Adelson will not be there.
Both Adelson’s attorneys and prosecutors will get 20 minutes to present their case.
WCTV plans to livestream those arguments on our social media and streaming platforms.
Adelson’s mother, Donna, also has an appeal pending before the court. She filed an appeal in November 2025 following her conviction.
Three other people are serving prison sentences for Dan Markel’s murder: convicted hitmen Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, along with convicted go-between Katherine Magbanua.
