TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man pleaded guilty in federal court for allegedly threatening to commit a school shooting to evade debt collection, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.
Demetrius Murray, 33, pleaded guilty to six counts of interstate communication of threats to injure children.
Court records show that Murray told representatives of a California law firm that was trying to collect his defaulted business loan.

During those conversations, Murray threatened to commit a school shooting if the firm continued trying to collect the debt. He directed his threats toward Kate Sullivan Elementary School.
These threats were accompanied by a video of Murray with a handgun near the school’s playground.
Kate Sullivan, Cobb Middle School and Leon High School were all placed under closed campus protocol due to Murray’s threats.
Murray was arrested in Gadsden County a few hours after the incident.
Sentencing is scheduled for April. Murray faces a maximum of five years in prison on each count.
