FAMU-FSU engineering student writes book to inspire girls to pursue STEM careers

  • February 3, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Today’s something good is designed to be empowering!

Fourth-year mechanical engineering student Madison Devoux couldn’t help but notice there were only a few girls in her classes at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering.

More good news:

Devoux is determined to change that, so she’s written a children’s book called “Hope is an Engineer” to encourage more girls to pursue STEM education.

“After reading this book, I hope little girls will take away that you can be in engineering, STEM is not a man’s game, it’s not a woman’s game, it’s everyone’s game and this is accessible to you and you can excel in the field of engineering,” Devoux said. “You can be anything you want to be if you work hard and believe in yourself.”

Devoux hopes the book will inspire young girls to explore careers in engineering.

She can hardly believe that the idea is now a real book – available on Amazon!
