CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — New details were shared Tuesday regarding a heavy police presence at a Winn-Dixie in Orange Park Monday night.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said a Jacksonville man went there after being stabbed multiple times at a nearby apartment complex.
CCSO said deputies responded to the Winn-Dixie located at 1339 Blanding Blvd. around 8:40 p.m. after receiving a report about the man being inside of a vehicle, suffering from apparent stab wounds and requesting emergency assistance.
The sheriff’s office said its preliminary investigation indicates that the man, identified as 38-year-old Billy Clark Foster, was involved in an altercation in the parking lot of Cypress Pointe Apartments, located at 25 Knight Boxx Rd., which is directly across the street from the Winn-Dixie.
During the altercation, Foster was stabbed multiple times before driving to the store in an “apparent attempt to seek help,” CCSO said. Deputies and Clay County Fire Rescue responded and provided Foster medical treatment, as he was then taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The individual who called 911 reportedly discovered Foster while passing by and is not believed to be involved in the incident, CCSO said.
Detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the altercation, according to CCSO.
