Last season, Marlins games on FanDuel Sports Network were distributed statewide by major cable and satellite providers like DIRECTV and Comcast-Xfinity.

FanDuel Sports Network also had the rights to stream Marlins games in the state of Florida.

“We’ve been speaking with MLB about local broadcast options for the teams that took back their rights from FanDuel Sports,” a Comcast spokesperson told WPBF 25 News on Tuesday.

Comcast has experience dealing with the changing television market.

In the last couple of years, the media rights for the Colorado Rockies, Arizona Diamondbacks and the Minnesota Twins among other teams have left regional sports networks but were distributed by Comcast in their respective local markets.

“Several MLB teams, including the Marlins, are moving to new channels before Opening Day. DIRECTV remains committed to local fans and will work with MLB, the teams involved, and other media partners to keep them connected,” a spokesperson for DIRECTV said in a statement to WPBF 25 News on Tuesday.

DIRECTV offers local game access for 28 of MLB’s 29 teams based in the United States.

DIRECTV was the first to join with MLB to launch league-operated team channels for the San Diego Padres in 2023, the Diamondbacks and Rockies in 2024 and the Twins and Cleveland Guardians in 2025.

A channel for Marlins games on DIRECTV will likely be in the vicinity of FanDuel Sports Network Florida, which is on channel 654.

The changing of the regional sports network landscape has impacted other professional sports leagues in the United States.

The National Hockey League’s Florida Panthers left the regional sports network after winning the Stanley Cup in June 2024 and began an over-the-air distribution agreement for its local TV rights in October 2024 with Scripps Sports, which is owned by an Ohio-based television company.

The company owns television stations in South Florida that are carried by cable and satellite television providers in South Florida.

The Tampa Bay Lighting followed the Panthers and left the regional sports network and broadcasts their games on an over-the-air station affiliated with Scripps Sports beginning last October.

WPBF 25 News requested comment from FanDuel Sports Network on Monday night and is awaiting a response.

The Marlins season opening game is Friday, March 27, against the Colorado Rockies at loanDepot Park in Miami.
