TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV/Florida Capital Bureau) – Florida nurses may soon need to get human trafficking training to work in the state.
A House committee unanimously approved a bill requiring nurses to complete a course on human trafficking to receive their initial license.
This expands a current law that requires nurses to complete the course for license renewal.
More Florida politics:
Florida has one of the highest counts of human trafficking in the country.
Bill sponsor Robin Bartleman, D-Weston, talked about the implementation of the program.
“There’s a lapse in training, so what’s happening is nurses are entering the workforce without training and that’s a missed opportunity to save lives,” Bartleman said. “So, all this bill does is require a two-hour training before licensure and subsequently at each renewal.”
The bill is also moving in the Senate.
