Unincorporated Seminole Sports Association seeks applicants

Applications are being accepted for four citizen appointments to the Unincorporated Seminole Sports Association. These appointments are for two-year terms, beginning on the date of appointment.

Applications due by 3 p.m. on March 25.

The Unincorporated Seminole Sports Association provides resources to serve the recreational needs of the unincorporated Seminole area. It was created by an ordinance passed by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners.

The Unincorporated Seminole Sports Association is made up of seven members, appointed by the county commission, who are qualified Pinellas County electors:

• Four at-large directors, each of whom resides within the Unincorporated Seminole Sports District and are not associated as board members with the Cross Bayou Athletic Association, Seminole Youth Athletic Association or Seminole Junior Warhawks Athletic Association

• One director who is nominated by the Cross Bayou Athletic Association Board of Directors

• One director who is nominated by the Seminole Junior Warhawks Athletic Association Board of Directors.

• One director who is nominated by the Seminole Youth Athletic Association Board of Directors

Meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the St. Petersburg College Seminole Campus.

New reservation system coming to county parks

Pinellas County Parks & Conservation Resources is introducing a new online reservation system on Monday, March 2. The new system will receive reservations and registration for all Pinellas County Parks & Conservation Resources Department programs, campsites, shelters, beach and boat passes, and events requiring registration.

The current system will be offline and reservation services will be suspended from Feb. 21-March 1 for data migration. User accounts will be automatically created for anyone with an active shelter or campsite reservation on or after March 2. All other users will need to create new accounts when they sign-in for the first time.

The new system will accept all major credit cards, automatically notify users waitlisted for programs, and provide full mobile access across all platforms and browsers.

Elections office sets ballot mailing

LARGO — The Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections on Feb. 3 was tentatively scheduled to mail ballots to domestic voters who have requested ballots to date. State law requires domestic ballots be mailed between 40 and 33 days prior to an election. The statutory deadline is Feb. 5.

Mail ballots to absent military and overseas voters who have requested ballots went out Jan. 23.

Those eligible to vote in this upcoming election include voters registered in the participating municipalities: Belleair Bluffs, Gulfport, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Kenneth City, Madeira Beach, Redington Shores, Safety Harbor, St. Pete Beach, Tarpon Springs, and Treasure Island.

To request a mail ballot, visit VotePinellas.gov, or call 727-464-VOTE (8683). The deadline to request that a ballot be mailed is Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.

Mail ballots must be received at one of the Supervisor of Elections Offices by 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Residents asked to limit landscape watering to one day a week

Regional water control officials are asking residents to observe new guidelines regarding landscape watering days because of the regional drought.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District governing board voted Jan. 27 to declare a “severe” water shortage due to dry conditions across the region. The declaration limits watering landscape to one day a week.

The restrictions apply to all of Citrus, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota and Sumter counties; portions of Charlotte, Highlands and Lake counties; the city of Dunnellon and The Villages in Marion County; and the portion of Gasparilla Island in Lee County The restrictions are in effect from Feb. 8 through July 1.

Residents should follow the following schedule. If your address (house number) ends in:

• 0 or 1, water only on Monday

• 2 or 3, water only on Tuesday

• 4 or 5, water only on Wednesday

• 6 or 7, water only on Thursday

• 8 or 9, and locations without a discernible address, water only on Friday

Use of reclaimed water is allowed any day of the week but only before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.

The rules are different for Pinellas County residents. The authorized irrigation schedule using reclaimed, potable, well, lake or pond sources for Pinellas County Utilities customers is as follows.

• Customers north of SR580:

Addresses ending in even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, 8): Saturdays

Addresses ending in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9): Wednesdays

Mixed or no address (such as common areas, entry areas/office complexes, shopping centers and other “no address” locations): Wednesdays

Watering using reclaimed water is not permitted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Watering using potable water is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

• Customers south of SR580

Addresses ending in even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, 8): Tuesdays

Addresses ending in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9): Thursdays

Mixed or No Address (such as common areas, entry areas/office complexes, shopping centers and other “no address” locations): Thursdays

Watering using either potable or reclaimed water is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Residents who do not receive their water from Pinellas County Utilities should verify their watering days and restrictions with their water supplier.

Elections supervisors offer college scholarships

The Florida Supervisors of Elections association is offering three $1,200 scholarships for college juniors and seniors. The deadline to apply is March 6.

Applicants must be:

• Registered Florida voters and have lived in Florida for at least the preceding two years.

• Pursuing a major in Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration or Journalism/Mass Communication.

• At least a junior in college.

• Enrolled or accepted as a full-time student in a senior college or university in Florida.

• Have at least a “C” average or above for the previous year.

• Demonstrate financial need.

Applications are available online at VotePinellas.gov/Scholarships or may be picked up at any of the three Supervisor of Elections offices: 315 Court St., Room 117, Clearwater; 13001 Starkey Rd., Largo; or 501 First Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

Completed applications must be submitted to the elections office of the county in which the applicant is registered to vote. Each county will select one finalist to submit to the FSE Scholarship Committee for consideration.
