The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said the victim was found deceased inside a bedroom where the fire was burning.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A person was found dead Thursday night after firefighters responded to a burning mobile home off Sunbeam Road.
According to a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson, crews were dispatched to the scene of the fire on Neal Drive just after 9 p.m. Initial reports indicated that one person may have been trapped inside the home.
During a search of the home, firefighters discovered a male victim deceased inside the bedroom, where the fire was burning. No one else was found inside the home.
The State Fire Marshal is working to learn the cause of the fire. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is also investigating to determine if the death was an accident or if any criminal activity was involved.
“As any case, whenever there is a fatality at a fire, it is immediately declared a homicide,” said District Chief Aaron Bebernitz.
This is the second deadly fire in Jacksonville this year, with the second happening just two days earlier. On Tuesday morning, a woman was found dead inside another mobile home on Collins Road following a fire.
