It was much closer than in their regular season matchup, but Orlando area No. 1 Lake Highland Prep prevailed 61-51 against the No. 3 area team in Saturday afternoon’s Class 3A District 6 boys basketball final.

Windermere Prep (21-6) led 42-41 going into the fourth quarter after trailing most of the way. But the resilient Highlanders (25-1), playing at home, went on a 12-2 run to break a 45-45 tie and claim their ninth consecutive district title since Ben Fratrik became head coach. That spree included three consecutive 3-pointers.

Seniors Shiva Atwal (15 points), RJ Ingram (11 points, 5 assists) and Mikey Madueme (10 points) led Lake Highland, which has won 22 games in a row and stands third in the 3A state rankings.

FSU recruit Brandon Bass Jr. scored 26 points for Windermere Prep, which is No. 6 in 3A and a lock to be a high seed again in the Region 2 tournament that tips off next Saturday.

Lake Highland dominated in its 64-49 regular season win at Windermere Prep.

Both teams poured on points in the semifinal round. The Lakers cruised to a 90-50 win against Discovery and LHP prevailed 80-47 vs. McKeel Academy. Bass scored 33 points in that game, 26 before halftime, before sitting out most of the running-clock second half.

The four district champions in each region advance to region quarterfinals set for Saturday, Feb. 14. Four more at-large teams will be added to each regional bracket — selected via the FHSAA’s power rankings, which will be updated after district finals. The boys and girls pairings are scheduled to be announced Monday by the FHSAA on its YouTube channel, starting at 2 p.m.
