JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Dolphins finished hosting the River City Leadoff tournament Saturday evening, going 3-1 in the event with a win over Colgate and a Saturday sweep of UMass.
The Dolphins took Game One over the Minutewomen, 13-1, in five innings before defeating UMass again, this time 8-0 in six innings. Jacksonville is off to its best start since the 2023 season when the ‘Phins opened with three wins before a two-run loss against Syracuse.

Dolphins Earn First Run-Rule Of Season
Despite the final score, Jacksonville actually battled back from a one-run deficit in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader. In the first frame, a UMass double gave the visitors the lead before an eight-run third inning sealed things for the home squad.
Graduate transfer Sarah Beth Brake got things going in the third with an RBI-single prior to Tatum McCool hitting the team’s first homer to the year to center, scoring a trio. Freshman Vic Brunette got back to the dugout via an error, followed by another error that scored Reese Wells.
The fourth inning cleaned things up with a Brunette RBI-single, an Alison Carter RBI-double, a Maci Burkhart RBI-single and finally a Madisyn Weathers RBI-single.
Jacksonville amassed 12 hits in the game to UMass’s three. Weathers, Wells, McCool and Brunette each had a pair of hits. McCool led the team with her three RBIs followed by a pair of RBIs from the graduate captain Carter, appearing in her second game of the year.Â
The UMass pitching staff only notched a single strikeout on the day while also walking four batters including Thomas twice. Graduate transfer Kate Linkletter found her way to first twice by getting hit by a pair of pitches as well.
In the circle, Jordan White moved to 2-0 on the young season following her five-inning performance against Colgate. White fanned three in her victory, moving her to 13 Ks through two games.Â
Through the three games, Weathers was tops on the team with a 6-10 batting clip, part of 28 total hits from Jacksonville batters. Brunette, a fellow frosh, stood second with a 4-9 number.

Jacksonville Posts Shutout Victory To Cap Weekend
It was all Jacksonville in the second game of the doubleheader against UMass, with JU coming out victorious 8-0. It was the team’s first shutout win of the 2026 season.
The win came behind another double-digit hitting performance, this time again to the tune of 12 total hits. Mansfield led the way with a 3-4 showing, followed by a 2-2 day from Weathers and a 2-3 day from Thomas.
In the first inning, Linkletter cranked the team’s second homer of the day, and season, to left to score a pair. In the fourth, Thomas knocked in a 2-RBI double. Weathers then did the same. To cap things off in the sixth, Brake clobbered a double to center which scored a runner. Carter then collected an RBI-single which pushed the game to its final.
Jacy Harrelson made her second start of the year in the circle, earning her first win. She went five innings, allowing just two hits and fanning one. Karson Johnson came in on in relief, tossing an inning and allowing two hits.
Jacksonville is already seeing massive production from its freshman class through four games. Weathers now leads the team with an 8-12 total at the plate, including two doubles. She is tied for the team lead in RBIs with four. Freshman Mansfield is tied with Linkletter for second on the team in hits with five.
