A water shortage warning was issued for several counties across South Florida on Saturday, including Miami-Dade, officials said.

According to the South Florida Water Management District, the warning was issued because of ongoing drought conditions and increased water use.

Officials said that the increase in water has contributed to lower water levels in the Biscayne Aquifer, which is the county’s primary water source.

While the warning is active, there aren’t any imposed mandatory restrictions, but SFWMD said more measures could be put in place if conditions get worse.

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department and SFWMD are encouraging people to use their water for essential uses.

Collier, Glades, Highlands, Lee and Monroe counties are also under the water shortage warning.

Some tips to conserve water include the following:

skipping scheduled lawn irrigation days until warning is lifted

avoiding washing boats and cars, and filling pools

run full loads when using the dishwasher or washing machines

change the times you use water; mornings and evenings are when water is used the most
