TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Traffic on Florida’s rural roads is expected to increase by 73% by 2045, according to a new study by a national transportation research nonprofit (TRIP).
The study shows that congestion and freight demands are increasing along with the population and economy of the Sunshine State.
The report also touched on the dangers of this increase, as these roads reportedly have a high fatality rate.

According to the report, 18% of Florida’s deadly crashes are on rural non-interstate roads but these roads only account for 12% of Florida’s vehicle travel.
Director of Policy & Research, Rocky Moretti, said it’s a difficult trend for rural communities in Florida to manage.
“That’s a challenge in rural Florida. To make sure that these roadways are as safe as possible,” Moretti said.
