Florida State ended up with a top 15 recruiting class in the 2026 cycle despite having back-to-back disappointing seasons. Four-star wide receiver, Jasen Lopez, is one of the prized signees of the cycle as he is the highest-ranked pass catcher in a group with several blue-chip commits, and he’s the No. 4 overall signee of the class.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder isn’t in Tallahassee just as a football talent. Lopez stars as a basketball player as well, and he’s been involved in practices since he enrolled in January although he hasn’t played in a game at the moment. He hopes the Seminoles season on the harwood will last through a run in March, but whenever it does end, he’ll get to his football duties immediately.

“The plan is to get in right after basketball season,” Lopez said via Warchant. “I do plan on doing this for the rest of my college career, but we’ll just see what the future holds.”

Lopez had an outstanding high school basketball career. He would go on to average 24.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 4.0 steals per game at Chaminade-Madonna across 96 games. This led to him being a four-star point guard prospect.

As a guard and a receiver, Lopez has similarities in terms of the responsibilities required to play each position. He talked about using that to flourish in both sports.

“You’re trying to get by your defender constantly with the positions that I play,” said Lopez. “So, the quickness, the footwork, the balance, it all goes hand in hand.”

On the gridiron, Lopez was ultra productive. He had four consecutive seasons of over 1,000 yards and double-digit touchdown receptions. As a senior, Lopez racked up 63 receptions for 1,173 yards and 13 touchdowns while averaging a career-best 18.6 yards per catch.

As mentioned earlier, Lopez headlines the Seminoles receiver haul in 2026. Four-star prospects Devin Carter and Efrem White round out their blue-chip commits. They also have three-star recruits Darryon Williams, Brandon Bennett, and Jonah Winston joining the roster next season.

Lopez is certainly one of the promising young talents at receiver that Florida State has coming next season to go along with All-ACC performer Duce Robinson, Micahi Danzy, and Jayvan Boggs.
