STUART, Fla. (CBS12) — South Florida is experiencing extremely dry conditions due to a lack of rain, prompting several local counties to implement burn bans.

Indian River, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties have all enacted bans on fires, including campfires, bonfires, and the burning of yard waste.

In St. Lucie County, officials are issuing agricultural permits on a case-by-case basis.

Violating the burn ban in Okeechobee County could result in a $500 fine, 60 days in jail, or both.

These burn bans will remain in effect until further notice.
