Deputies arrested Pascual Santana, 79, of Hialeah, on Friday in connection with the Nov. 16 incident at the chain’s location at 5851 NW 177th St. in the unincorporated Country Club area, just north of Miami Lakes.

Investigators said at around 11 a.m. that day, Santana rolled up to the jewelry section on a mobility scooter and asked to see several items.

The employee wouldn’t show him multiple items at once, telling him that “she’s only allowed to show one piece of jewelry at a time‚” according to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Santana “became upset because he felt that (she) was not providing good service” and began to call her “(derogatory) names.”

The report states that Santana told the worker “she had a bad attitude and that she needed to fix it” and again asked to see multiple pieces of jewlery at once.

“After the victim explained to (Santana) for a second time that she was unable to show him multiple pieces of jewelry at the same time, the defendant opened his shirt, in which he had a firearm in his waistband, (and) showed it to the victim,” it states.

Deputies said he then asked her, “Are you scared now?”

“The victim, in fear for her safety, backed up and called for store security and advised of what occurred,” the report states.

Authorities said they went to Hialeah on Friday to arrest Santana on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Deputies said Santana denied that it was him on surveillance video during the incident. He then asked for an attorney.

As of Monday, Santana remained locked up in the Metrowest Detention Center on a $5,000 bond, with records showing he’s refused a bond court appearance.
