Later today, the Disco Biscuits will headline Jam Cruise 22 when it sets sail from Miami, FL aboard the MSC Divina. In advance of the multi-day destination event, the Disco Biscuits hosted Jam Cruise’s official pre-party concert last night at the Miami Beach Bandshell, and the evening contained several unexpected surprises.
The Disco Biscuits kicked off their first set with two songs they had yet to play with new drummer Marlon Lewis, “Save The Robots” and “Humuhumunukunukuapua’a.” The latter tune segued into “The Bells” and then flowed into a seamless rest of the set that consisted of “Tourists (Rocket Ship),” “Better In Doses” and “Sound One.” The group’s second set followed a similar pattern, kicking off with the first “Vassillios” since Lewis joined the band and then moving through some of “Munchkin Invasion,” the first part of “Spacebirdmatingcall, “The Deal,” “Show Me Love” and then the rest of “Munchkin Invasion” without pausing.
For their encore, the Biscuits brought out longtime friend Matisyahu for a surprise appearance. The reggae singer, who first sat in with the group in 2007 in Langerado in Florida, led the band through his signature single “One Day” while smoking a joint on stage, before the Disco Biscuits closed the night with the rest of “Spacebirdmatingcall.” During “One Day,” the five musicians also worked in a bit of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry” to mark the reggae icon’s Feb. 6 birthday.
