The Captiva Community Panel will present Notes & Narratives, featuring award-winning composer, synthesist and flutist Kat Epple, on Feb. 13 at the Captiva Civic Center on Captiva.

An upcoming event will raise funds to support the work of the Captiva Community Panel (CCP).

The CCP will host Notes & Narratives on Feb. 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Captiva Civic Center on the island. It will feature music and storytelling with musician Kat Epple, plus food and drinks.

Panel Member and Development Committee Chair Margarethe Thye-Miville explained that the CCP was officially established in 2003 and the fundraiser will support its initiatives, projects and operations.

“Our goal is to keep Captiva the way we like it,” she said.

The event will be a celebration of the island, with a Valentine’s Day theme.

Epple is an Emmy and a Peabody award-winning composer, synthesist and flutist.

“She’ll play for us,” Thye-Miville said. “She’s quite an amazing musician.”

Epple has written music for several documentaries, including “On Sanibel: The Hurricane Diaries” by islander Laura DeBruce. She also plays flutes from around the world, like metal, wood and ceramic.

During the program, Epple will pause to share commentary.

“There will be three brief interruptions,” she said. “She’ll talk about the Calusa Indians. About Bob Rauschenberg — she was a very dear friend of his — and animals, like manatees and ospreys.”

Hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

“Some of them are Valentine’s style,” Thye-Miville said.

Attendees will also enjoy an open bar with soda, mixed drinks and more.

“We’ll have different kinds of wine,” she added.

The event sponsors include: American Realty of Captiva; Captiva Island Pizza, which is donating some pizzas; Kingfisher Real Estate and Vacation Rentals; Royal Shell Real Estate and Vacation Rentals; The Green Flash; and The Island Store, which is donating sparkling wine.

“A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors,” Thye-Miville said.

Tickets are a $50 or more donation.

The community is invited to attend.

“It’s a celebration of Captiva, while supporting the Captiva Community Panel,” she said.
