FSU Math Fun Day provides kids interactive way to learn

  • February 10, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – It’s not common to hear math and fun in the same sentence but at Florida State, leaders are bringing the party to the classroom.

FSU hosted its 11th annual Math Fun Day. Nearly 600 parents and kids strolled through the open house math festival on campus, Saturday.

WCTV spoke with FSU professor and event director Dr. Monica Hurdal, who said math is all around us and this kind of exposure to numbers, problem solving and experiments could help to stimulate the mind.

“It also has a core fundamental in ways [of] teaching us how to think and solve problems which are life long skills that anybody can use and benefit from,” she said.

She also mentioned the event offers an interactive and fun way for kids to learn.

“Often, you know, kids in school are, you know, used to doing the worksheets and the computations and today’s event is all about hands on activities,” she said.

Hurdal said with many volunteers helping out this weekend, the day was a huge success and organizers are excited and already planning next year’s Math Fun Day.
