The separate brush fires burned in Lithia and Seffner, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

SEFFNER, Fla. — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded and contained two separate brush fires in the eastern part of the county Monday. A burn ban remains in place for the county.

Firefighters were called to two areas in Hillsborough County. One fire burned in the Welcome Road area in Lithia, while the second started in the area of East Sligh Avenue in Seffner. Both have been contained, HCFR said.

One of the fires destroyed an RV and an abandoned mobile home in Lithia, and the Seffner fire happened near the Lazydays RV Center, emergency crews said.

“Calls were received at approximately 1:18 PM reporting a brush fire that ultimately consumed an RV and an abandoned mobile home,” fire rescue crews said about the Lithia fire. “The fire was estimated at approximately five acres.”

No injuries were reported during the Lithia incident. While firefighters were putting out the flames in Lithia, around 2 p.m., fire rescue began receiving multiple 911 calls about a large brush fire in Seffner.

“While crews were still engaged in suppression efforts in Lithia, a second brush fire was reported in Seffner near 11318 E. Sligh Avenue,” fire rescue said. “The first-arriving unit requested additional resources, prompting a second alarm and a total of 24 units responding to the scene.”

Fire Rescue crews said that when they arrived to the scene in Seffner, they focused on protecting nearby homes and the RV Center. Then firefighters focused on containing the “expansive brush fire,” which they were able to control within two hours after first arriving. No injuries were reported there either.

According to HCFR, the Florida Forest Service and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the emergency.

Over the last year, the Tampa Bay region has seen an 11-inch rainfall deficit and decreasing river flows.
