The Leon County Main Library, which is nestled in the heart of downtown Tallahassee, is closed until further notice due to a plumbing issue.

“The Leon County Main Library is currently closed due to a plumbing issue and will remain closed until repairs are complete,” the county posted on Facebook. “County crews are actively working to resolve the issue, and we will provide updates as soon as possible.”

A county spokesperson said he didn’t know the cause or severity of the issue nor how long it would be until the library reopened, but said plumbers are on site with county staff “assessing the situation.”

As of late Monday afternoon, patrons were seen walking up to the doors only to see the paper signs posted that they are closed.

A worker outside the library said the toilets inside were unusable and that someone likely flushed something that shouldn’t have been flushed. He expected the library to reopen Tuesday.

By 10 p.m. the county posted “Repairs at the Leon County Main Library are now complete! The Main Library will reopen tomorrow, February 10, during normal operating hours. Thank you for your patience while we worked to resolve the issue!”
