Mason High School dance team wins first place at Nationals in Florida
HER FRIEND AND ALL OF THOSE OTHER KIDS. ALL RIGHT, NOW TO SOME NEWS. WE JUST LOVE TONIGHT. A HUGE WEEKEND FOR MASON HIGH SCHOOL. THE DANCE TEAM TOOK HOME FIRST PLACE AT THE NATIONALS DOWN IN ORLANDO FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. AND CHECK IT OUT. YOU CAN SEE WHY THEY WON. COME ON. WE’RE GONNA TAKE IT TO THE TOP. SO THE TEAM OF 22, 20 GIRLS AND TWO BOYS HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS HIP HOP ROUTINE SINCE LAST SUMMER. THEY QUALIFIED FOR THE COMPETITION IN JULY, AND SINCE AUGUST, THEY’VE BEEN PRACTICING THREE, EVEN FIVE TIMES A WEEK, MAKING SURE EVERY STEP IS IN SYNC AND EVERY TWIST AND TURN IS PERFECTLY TIMED. MAKING THE WIN EVEN SWEETER. AFTER TEN YEARS OF LEADING THE TEAM, THEIR HEAD COACH, CHRISTINA HUTTER, IS RETIRING THIS YEAR. WE’VE BEEN FIGHTING FOR THIS FOR YEARS TO, YOU KNOW, JUST SLOWLY MAKE IT UP THE RANKS AND FOR IT TO END ON THIS, IT’S JUST IT’S SO OVERWHELMING. I CAN’T REALLY EXPLAIN IT. IT’S JUST, I MEAN, I FEEL LIKE I’VE BEEN CRYING FOR THE LAST 48 HOURS, SO BY THE WAY, THE CLOSEST MASON HAS EVER GOTTEN WAS FIFTH PLACE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. Last weekend was a big one for Mason High School, with the school’s dance team taking first place at Nationals in Orlando, Florida.It was the first time in school history that the team won the award.The team, consisting of 20 girls and two boys, has been working on the hip hop routine used for the event since last summer.Mason qualified for the national competition last July and since August, the dancers have practiced three to five times per week, making sure every step is in sync and every twist was perfectly timed.To make the win even sweeter, head coach Christina Huetter is retiring this year after leading the Comets for 10 years.Prior to their win this year, the closest Mason had gotten to a championship was when the team placed fifth several years ago.
