There aren’t too many items on Tuesday’s night’s Village Council agenda but one of those could change the face of Key Biscayne for both aesthetics and resiliency.
Item 10.A is a resolution of the Village Council to authorize the Village Manager to advance the Village-wide utility fortification program for Zones 2-8 to underground electrical and telecommunication facilities.
The projects are to be primarily funded through the Village’s Resilient Infrastructure General Obligation Bond for approximately $66 to $81 million. The recommended first area would be Zone 8, the Garden District.
Zone 1 (around the K-8 Center) would be on hold until a decision on a stormwater plan is finalized.
Residents learned of the undergrounding project at a recent workshop, while Islander News reported this past week that the all-or-nothing agenda item would be brought to the table Tuesday night.
The Village Council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m., in Village Chambers and can be viewed in person or on VKB-TV.
Also among the agenda items:
• The first reading of an ordinance to increase the business tax receipts 5% will be discussed.
• A capital project that would select Advanced Roofing, Inc. for the Key Biscayne Community Center coating system, not to exceed $123,300, will also be up for vote.
• Another capital project, approving change orders for the Building, Zoning and Planning office renovation project, relates to the customer services area that would not exceed $68,813.97, pushing the total project cost to $516,930.46.
• Village Manager Steve Williamson wants to take another look at a Jan. 13 requested two-quote minimum to authorize purchases under $6,000.
• He also will present the Village’s legislative goals for the year.
• A special presentation to a crew of Key Biscayne Fire-Rescue officials will take place early in the meeting.
