ORLANDO, Fla. — A+ Teacher Carwin Go is a real motivator. He has a passion for conservation and protecting the environment that makes his science lessons impactful.
In Go’s science class, his students stay busy putting in the work, which is a common thread in the Howard Middle School classroom.
He operates with a simple philosophy.
“One quote I’ve always found important ever since I was in high school is that, in the end, we only protect what we love. We love only what we understand, and we understand only what we’re taught,” Go explained.
Teaching is at the core of everything Go does.
“So that’s why I value education so importantly, because without being exposed to these natural phenomena that happened in the world, the kids don’t know what to be interested in. They don’t know why it’s important, and they don’t know what to protect when it comes to conservation and environmentalism. It’s what’s important.”
He says the learning environment is also important so that students can take it all in.
“They get to express their personalities, and it’s really helpful for keeping them focused and keeping them on task,” he said.
Go doesn’t just encourage his students to be lifelong learners — he sets an example.
“I do want to become a professor at one point. So, I’m still trying to pursue my degrees in Marine Bio, getting a master’s and a PhD. But I think education at any level is important.”
