ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man faces multiple felony charges after police said he caused $70,000 in damage during a vandalism spree across downtown Orlando.
At 6:15 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to America Street in reference to an incident of criminal mischief.
According to an arrest affidavit, surveillance cameras at multiple locations captured Jean Charmant,43, using a metal tool to shatter windows of businesses and vehicles throughout the downtown corridor. He was seen wearing all black, including a baseball cap and bandana, and carrying a backpack.

The incidents began early in the morning, around 6 a.m., and continued through the day. Locations affected included residential units on America Street, the Common Sense business on North Orange Avenue, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, several vehicles on West Central Boulevard, and multiple commercial buildings downtown. Damage estimates ranged from $250 to $20,000 per site, with total damage exceeding tens of thousands of dollars, according to the arrest affidavit.
Orlando police detained Charmant in the same area later that afternoon. During questioning, he admitted to being under the influence of narcotics at the time of the incidents and identified himself in surveillance footage.
Charmant remains in the Orange County Jail on $20,000 bond. He faces seven felony counts of criminal mischief for damage over $1,000 and five additional counts for damage between $200 and $1,000.
