An 82-year-old woman has been arrested in a hit-and-run in southwest Miami-Dade last month that left a 7-year-old boy on an electric scooter seriously injured, authorities said.

Karina Pubchara-Martinez was arrested Monday on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury, Miami-Dade jail records showed.

The crash happened back on Jan. 10 in the 8200 block of Southwest 32nd Street.

According to an arrest report, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded and found the 7-year-old child injured in the swale.

His mother said he was riding an electric scooter and was trying to cross Southwest 32nd Street when he was struck by a silver Toyota Camry that fled the scene, the report said.

The boy was taken to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital with serious injuries including an acute head injury, a brain lesion, a broken femur and a fractured femur, the report said.

Deputies found plastic debris including bumper components from a Camry at the scene, and surveillance footage showed the damaged Camry driving away after the crash, the report said.

On Jan. 22, the vehicle was found parked on Southwest 37th Street, with a dented hood and missing front bumper components.

Investigators met with the car’s registered owner, Pubchara-Martinez, who spontaneously said she was driving at the time of the crash two weeks earlier and didn’t report it to law enforcement, the report said.

Cell-site data also showed she was at the scene of the crash when it happened, the report said.

Pubchara-Martinez voluntarily surrendered and was booked into jail. A judge later granted her a $7,500 bond and ordered her not to drive.
