TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The City of Tallahassee is set to honor former Clerk of Courts Dave Lang by renaming a section of Jefferson Street downtown.
It comes after city commissioners recently approved a resolution renaming a stretch of the street “Dave Lang Street.” The street is located right next to the Leon County Courthouse, where Lang worked for over 40 years.

Lang says he’s extremely honored by the renaming.
“Both myself and my family were deeply honored because we love this community and I spent 42 years of my life in that courthouse,” Lang said, “and I grew up watching that place and all the events there, so I was extremely honored, I’ll tell you that.”
Lang first began working for Leon County in 1959 and served as deputy clerk for many years before he was elected Leon County Clerk of Courts in 1992.

He’s credited with modernizing the office and shepherding it through the 2000 election before retiring in 2001.
“So, many, many, many days I pulled down that street,” Lang said. “There’s so much history there it bubbles out of me.”

Lang, who is battling cancer right now, is grateful for the street renaming and the recognition of his 40-plus years in public service.
“We’re going to have to plan something around New Year’s because that will be ‘Old Lang’ sign,” he said with a laugh. “We’ll have to have a little song fest there when that sign goes up.”

The street will officially be renamed after Lang on March 2. It’s one block long and runs between South Monroe Street and Calhoun Street in the heart of downtown Tallahassee.
Lang is a sixth-generation Floridian whose family has lived in Leon County since the 1800’s. He still resides on a family farm that dates back to 1829.
