LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Ladies from across Lee County gathered at Cross Creek Country Club to raise money for families in need. The event was part of WINK News’ March to a Million Meals initiative, aiming to combat hunger in Southwest Florida.
“To be frank… the need has grown substantially,” said a major gift officer from the Harry Chapin Food Bank. “We used to feed 250,000 people per month; now it’s 300,000 people.”
The event attracted 136 golfers from the area, turning their favorite pastime into a powerful force for change.
“It’s just been amazing, the turnout and the donations we’ve been able to give to Harry Chapin,” said Linda, one of the participants.
For 16 years, these golfers have been hitting the course, driven by the struggles that working families face.
“I know so many people are out of work, don’t make enough to make ends meet… I’ve been there myself, so I know exactly what they’re going through. It’s something that’s in my heart,” said Eileen, visibly emotional.
Despite the challenges on the golf course, the participants felt victorious, knowing their efforts help ensure families in the community will have food on their tables.
