The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday afternoon at a Jacksonville residence, while the suspect was later taken into custody in South Carolina.
Deputies responded around 4:30 p.m. Feb. 9 to a report of a shooting at a home on Rocky Run Road. Upon arrival, deputies found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside the residence. The victim was identified as 33-year-old Brendon Dillon. First responders provided aid until Emergency Medical Services arrived, and Dillon was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
Suspect arrested in South Carolina after Jacksonville shooting; victim in stable condition
Investigators said the suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived. The suspect was later identified as Robert Joseph Williams Jr., 37, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. A BOLO was issued, and Williams was located and arrested later that evening in North Myrtle Beach with assistance from the Horry County Police Department and the North Myrtle Beach Police Department.
Williams is being extradited back to North Carolina and faces charges including possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and discharge of a weapon into an occupied property. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Detectives said the investigation remains ongoing.
