SUN CITY CENTER, FL — A man was seriously injured and the driver of a tractor-trailer truck was arrested in a Monday afternoon crash on Interstate 75, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
Northbound traffic was moving slowly on the highway around 4:30 p.m. because of an unrelated vehicle fire near the Sun City Center exit.
The truck’s driver made an illegal u-turn to head south on I-75 at mile marker 235, near the Hillsborough and Manatee county line, FHP said.
The tractor-trailer drove into the path of a Toyota Corolla driven by a 28-year-old Parrish man and was hit by the car.
The car’s driver was brought to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The truck’s driver, 45-year-old Julio Dones Rosa of Citrus Springs, was uninjured in the crash.
Troopers arrested him, charging him with reckless driving involving serious injury.
