Body camera footage released from fatal Miami police shooting
MIAMI — Newly released body camera video shows the moments a Miami police detective shot and killed a man during a foot chase in October 2023.
The State Attorney’s Office released the footage Tuesday after ruling last week the shooting was legally justified.
That fall evening, investigators say two men — Arnicious Odom Jr. and Marco Brown Jr. — were wearing masks and hoodies, appearing to hold a heavy object.
As an officer approached, investigators said that officer observed a loaded gun in Brown’s pants.
Body camera video captured the moments an officer brought Brown to the ground and took him into custody.
Brown can be heard in the video asking police not to kill him as the officer finds his gun.
But meanwhile, police said Odom ran off with a gun.
A detective pursued him in her cruiser before jumping out and chasing him on foot.
Finally, Odom ran up to a fence and threw the gun over it before jumping over himself.
Investigators said Odom tried picking up the gun, forcing the detective to shoot and kill him.
He was pronounced dead on scene.
