SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – Multiple people were found dead in a reported shooting inside a Florida home Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Fallcrest Circle around 12:30 p.m., where they found the victims dead.
A weapon was recovered from the home. The sheriff’s office called it an isolated incident and said there was no threat to the public.
“It is currently a shooting investigation. We do have multiple persons involved,” a sheriff’s office spokesperson said. “And it appears that all of those persons are accounted for.”
Several area schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution after the shooting.
A heavy law enforcement presence remained in the neighborhood during the on-scene investigation.
Deputies were checking the identification of residents entering the gated Amberlea community to ensure only residents could access the area around the crime scene.
One resident who lives across the street said he heard gunshots around noon.
“A little in shock,” the neighbor said. “Happening right here in my neighborhood. And Amberlea is a safe community. I mean, it’s gated. And just people dying … it’s horrible.”
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately identify the victims or say how many people were killed.
The home had been the subject of two previous police calls, though officials said it did not appear to be a suspicious residence or one that routinely required police services.
