A 65-year-old woman was killed in the Lawnwood community of Fort Pierce Saturday afternoon when a driver lost control of her vehicle, crashing into the woman while she was sunbathing near a pool.”It was very horrible and also a freak accident, like lightning striking,” said Trigg Routh, who lives next to the pool. “It was awful and surreal.”Routh recounted hearing a loud bang that shook his house. “Walk outside and a black Jeep had ran into my neighbor’s house,” he said.Routh ran to assist and noticed the driver was unresponsive. “I’m screaming on the phone to the 911 operator thinking if I scream louder, they’ll get an ambulance here faster,” he said. “But it was awful.”Police said they believe the 38-year-old driver suffered some sort of medical episode while she was on Lawnwood Circle.She appears to have lost consciousness, driven off the road, through hedges, through the pool fencing, somehow missing the pool and instead hitting the 65-year-old woman lying next to the pool. The car kept going, crashing through more fencing before slamming into a neighbor’s home, coming to rest in one of the home’s bedrooms. The 65-year-old was found under the vehicle.She had been killed. Her name has not been released, but neighbors say she was in town from Massachusetts visiting family.”Life’s not fair,” Routh said. “This was a horrible, freak accident.
