Sex-trafficking survivors would no longer be restricted by statutes of limitations to pursue civil claims against their offenders under a new law Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer proposed Tuesday.

Virginia’s Law would end the 10-year limit for adult survivors to sue, allowing them more time to come to terms with their abuse. One of the Epstein’s best-known victims, Giuffre was 16 when she was recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell to provide sexual services for Epstein and his acquaintances.

She escaped to Thailand at age 19 and later founded the nonprofit Victims Refuse Silence in 2015 to support survivors. She died by suicide last April.
