For those who still lament the passing of Tanqueray’s and its vibrant live music calendar, there’s a new night at the corner set to summon up Tanq’s eclectic spirit downtown. The weekly night ChemLab at the Corner — a hop, skip, and jump from the old Tanqueray’s — launches this week and is set to feature live music from familiar local faces like the O’Gilvie Trio, Mr. Martini, Ancient Sun and United Groove.

This Thursday, Feb. 12, ChemLab launches at 9 p.m. with drink specials from sponsor Tito’s and a stacked lineup that includes Black Heart Society, Emily Rose, O’her Majesty, Analyia, Asa Vuitton and Museigen. Successive weeks will see the event starting at 10 p.m. and featuring local favorites from the freewheeling Tanqueray’s calendar.

Indira Sassone, a promotions associate at The Block who co-created the concept with Amy Sanfellipo, says they came up with the name because they “wanted to go with something that inspired chemistry, like making a reaction.”

“Also, our tagline is ‘people plus music equals reaction,’” adds Sassone. The Block is the cluster of clubs at the intersection of North Orange Avenue and East Washington Street that includes The Corner, Patio, Aero, 64 North, The Social, and Beacham.

Upcoming Schedule:

Feb. 19: O’Gilvie Trio
Feb. 26: Mr. Martini
March 5: Ancient Sun
March 12: Black Heart Society
March 19: United Groove
March 26: Museigen
