Sarasota County deputies say Tuesday’s shooting at a home in the gated Amberlea neighborhood left five people dead, including the suspected shooter, who is connected to a double homicide that was discovered the same day in Fort Lauderdale.

The sheriff’s office released new details on the mass shooting Wednesday after previously only revealing there were “no survivors.”

A 911 call came in at 12:24 p.m. about an adult man who had been shot at a home on Fallcrest Circle near Proctor and McIntosh roads.

Deputies arrived minutes later to find neighbors performing CPR on the man on the front lawn. They told deputies that the man’s wife was potentially inside the home.

The man was transferred to the care of the Sarasota County Fire Department and died a short time later.

Fearing for the safety of the man’s wife, deputies entered the home to find four people dead, two men and two women. One of the people found dead is the suspected shooter, according to the sheriff’s office.

While attempting to identify the victims, Sarasota County detectives were contacted by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department about a double homicide. Fort Lauderdale police said they believed the killings were connected because the suspect’s car was caught on camera driving northbound through Punta Gorda before the Sarasota shooting.

Detectives worked with Amberlea neighbors and the HOA to recover video of that same car entering the neighborhood at 11:01 a.m. A neighbor’s Ring camera video also captured the sound of gunfire.

Another video showed the man who was found on the front lawn driving into the neighborhood 37 minutes prior. He was seen approaching the front door of the home, where he was shot, according to the sheriff’s office.

No other people were caught on camera entering or exiting the home until deputies arrived.

Detectives say they’ve identified all the victims but are waiting to release their names until after their families are notified.

Preliminary information shows that the suspect had been in a previous romantic relationship with one of the victims in the Fort Lauderdale double homicide. The Fort Lauderdale victim was connected to the victims in the Sarasota shooting.

“The suspect’s motivation for targeting the Sarasota victims is unknown,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
