The Housing Authority of the city of Fort Myers and its nonprofit development arm, the Southwest Florida Housing Foundation, broke ground Feb. 10 on The Arwyn, a 230-unit affordable housing community that will replace the former Horizons Apartments.
Officials, project partners and community leaders gatheredin Fort Myers to mark the start of construction on what they described as a long-term investment in family housing. The redevelopment is intended to modernize the site while expanding access to safe, stable housing for local residents.
The Arwyn at 5360 Summerlin Road will include a 4,396-square-foot clubhouse, community gardens, covered pavilions with grilling areas and a dog park. Apartments will feature in-unit washers and dryers. Organizers said the design emphasizes connection, convenience and quality of life for families.
