“I do find probable cause for your arrest for the obscene communication using your computer to salute, seduce a list or lure a child,” Broward County judge Melinda Brown told Erskin Wednesday morning. “And I do find probable cause for Count 2 of transmitting information harmful to a minor.”

Assistant State Attorney Eric Linder indicated during the hearing that investigators believe there may be additional victims.

“The allegations before the court the state does not believe is an isolated incident, but was part of a pattern,” Linder said.

The Broward County state attorney’s office asked the court to set Erskin’s bond at $50,000 for each count, but the judge found that amount was “too low.”

“So, I’m not going to go with that,” Judge Brown said. “I did find an appropriate bond for each count is $250,000 each.”

As for the other conditions for Erskin’s pretrial release, the judge told him he can have “no contact with the victim, no contact with any minors, no contact with former students at South Plantation High.”

Linder said the state had no objection to Erkin returning to Seminole County if he posts bond. The judge agreed with the state’s request that he must be fitted with a GPS monitor.

The judge also ordered Erkin not to enter any K-12 schools and to stay off the internet and social media sites.

Erskin had recently been hired as the new football coach at Mount Dora High School in Lake County, but he never got the chance to lead the team on the field.

“Mr. Erskin is no longer employed with Lake County Schools,” Lake County Schools said in a statement sent to WESH 2. “He was dismissed (Thursday), while still in his probationary period with the district, after we learned of his arrest.”

Broward County Public Schools confirmed to WESH 2 that Erskin previously taught math and coached football at South Plantation High School. His employment with BCPS ended in August 2024.

Erskin also worked as a substitute teacher in South Florida on and off between 2014 and 2022.

The probable cause affidavit for Erskin’s arrest has not yet been made available, but the prosecutor shared new details about the allegations against him.

He pushed back against his defense attorney saying there were no attempts to meet the victim in person.

“I believe there are allegations that he made references to driving down here from northern Florida to pick her up and take her to a football game, your honor,” Linder said. “These were rejected by the victim. Additionally, he made several attempts to FaceTime with her that she rejected because of her concerns about having a face-to-face visual.”

As of noon Wednesday, Broward County jail records showed Erskin was still in custody.
